So very impressive. The great grandson of O'Sensei. His lineage is apparent; skill is off the chart.

Pic: Fallen Tree, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Western North Carolina Mountains I just found this. I wrote it @ 2006, basically forgot about it. I guess it must be time to bring it out of the dark: Seeing The Light I pause at the coffee pot and look out Across the street at the desolate empty lot. The trees, that just yesterday were screaming For help from someone, anyone, Against the onslaught of the coming freeze, Have today abandoned themselves to the Inevitable defeat of winter. They stand there, naked, frozen solid, Where just yesterday they danced in the breeze And threw their leaves about, as if leaves Were money to burn. And that cold bright blue sky behind them Bites. That sky portends cold air, The kind of cold that burns your face And numbs your feet. They stand there in parlor, dead limbs, leaves, And red mud scattered about their numb roots. And I stand here at the coffee pot, frozen myself, Between their world and that world behind me, World of warm bed, unread books, fresh coffee. But I can’t stand here at the coffee pot. I can’t Go back to bed. Because the days are short and The sun will be setting soon. And I just don’t Have that many more days. The ones I do have Are getting shorter, the sunsets brighter. I have to go now. I have to dance And throw my leaves while the wind still blows Across my bones. |
