However, if all is One anyway, can we just skip the specifics and go straight to Dao? There are a gazilliion different answers to that. From my perspective, I say yes we can, but perhaps we miss other things that are also important by taking shortcuts. Or maybe a better way to say that is, yes we are individual manifestations of Ultimate Reality (Dao) and we don't need anything to realize that. However, we manifest on different levels, physical, energetic, subtle, astral and we benefit overall by acknowledging and nurturing these different vibrations as best we can.
Everything is energy and everything is conscious. From this it follows that there is no separation between subject and object, they are different perspectives based in the same ultimate ground. Further, object is influenced by subject's observation and engagement and vice-versa. In reality there is no object outside the act of observation, but the act happens just the same. Which is the key to unraveling the mystery and confusion. Acting is the agency that ties all together, the catalyst for the dance of reality.
Acting (Kriya) is the element that destroys the concept of nihilism. Acting establishes a connection between mind and body, subject and object, observer and observed. Maybe the action is only the acknowledgement that there is no real separation after all. Or maybe the action is taking care of the physical and/or energetic bodies, or leading the mind to stillness via pranayama, asana, or Neigong.
Yes, all is One, but then again we experience separation. Hence we need something to clarify perception. Action is that something. And not just action, but right action, intentional action or Kriya. So we can further say, Kriya, properly understood, is the door of perception.
